Woodvales Indian Ocean Rowing Race - April 19th 2009
Woodvale 'The Worlds Toughest Ocean Rowing
Races'

It's a massive undertaking as you can imagine; rowing some 4,000
nautical miles, over 3 months, across what are very treacherous
waters and weather systems! Only five people have ever done so; by
way of contrast over 660 people have climbed Everest. When they
succeed in doing so they will be the first pair ever to cross
it; and the youngest – at 25 – as well. So two world records! Along
the way they will encounter mountainous waves, whales, sharks,
swarms of jellyfish and temperatures exceeding 40 degrees.
The fundraising effort is huge. They need to raise £76k to
compete, with all further proceeds going to Orchid, www.orchid-cancer.org.uk
- the only UK charity solely dedicated to the fight against
male cancers; prostate, penile and testicular (total target is
£200k). To date they have raised £21k and have their boat
built and ready for the gruelling training schedule ahead.
Yet to be named, the Rossiter Yachts built boat will be present
for the duration of the show on berth 397.
