Katie Miller's yacht racing - Hot Socks

Hot Socks

Hot Socks is the racing yacht belonging to Katie Miller, Ambassador for the PSP Southampton Boat Show and 2006 Raymarine Young Sailor of the Year. Katie and Hot Socks have recently returned from their recent triumph in the bluQube 1,000 miles race - her first major solo event. The bluQube is the official qualifier for the 2009 OSTAR, the iconic transatlantic race previously won by Dame Ellen MacArthur OBE.

Competing against 23 other boats, sleep deprivation and several dolphins eager to join in the race, Katie and Hot Socks, the Figaro II race boat, crossed the finish line on 11th July and won Best Rookie, Open Class Two Overall Winner, The ANA Overall winner of the BluQube 1000 solo, and the Endeavour Trophy voted for by the competing skippers.

Katie is currently both the youngest and the only female entrant is the OSTAR race that was first run in 1960 when it was won by sailing legend Francis Chichester in Gipsy Moth III. The 2009 race will leave Plymouth on 25 May and head for Newport, Rhode Island on the East coast of the USA.
