Pete Goss MBE & Spirit of Mystery
154 years ago, seven brave Cornishmen set sail
in a 37ft wooden lugger to seek their fortune in the Australian
Gold Rush. All the men were related by blood or marriage and the
decision to undertake this journey was made over a pint in a local
Cornish pub!
Leaving Newlyn on 18th November
1854 the Mystery travelled about 11,800 nautical miles in 116 days
before arriving in Melbourne on March 6 1855.
Pete Goss MBE has built a replica of the
Spirit of Mystery and will be displaying her on Berth 60 on the
Hydropool Marina.
Pete
is still building the boat, and we will be updating pictures on
this site as the build commences. Pete and the Spirit of Mystery
will be with us on Press & preview Day the Sept 12th
only.
