"Ahoy there!" This is your
chance to step aboard a fascinating tall ship. Come and get a
taste of life aboard a working tall ship and see how this grand
traditional ship has been built to operate with not only the latest
electronic and navigational aids, but also with a suite of special
features that enable people of all abilities to sail together as
equals.
Named after the famous British Admiral, Lord
Nelson is one of just two tall ships in the world to be owned and
operated by the Southampton based sailing charity the Jubilee
Sailing Trust. Lord Nelson and her sister ship Tenacious have
been specially designed and built to enable a crew of 20 able
bodied and 20 disabled people to sail side by side.
Lord Nelson sails for 46 weeks of the year on
voyages that have taken her to the USA, the Mediterranean and
Northern Europe. Since her launch in 1986 she has taken over 24,000
people to sea. Of these, nearly 10,000 people were physically
disabled and just over 3,500 were wheelchair users.
Come aboard! Find us at Solent Park
at the 2009 PSP Southampton Boat Show. Lord Nelson will be at the
Show from Sunday 13 until Sunday 20 September (not at the
Show on Friday 11 or Saturday 12)
