Armed Steam Pinnace 199, with her Hotchkiss 3lb pound
gun and still driven by steam machinery typical of the period, is
one of the last of her kind of naval steamboats in full working
condition and is listed in the National Historic Ships Register as
a designated vessel.
Built in 1911 and fully restored in time to take part in the
Festival of the Sea in 2001, she is maintained and operated by
volunteers from the Society of Friends of the Royal Naval Museum at
Portsmouth who, dressed in the uniform of the era, take great pride
in maintaining naval traditions afloat.
See Steam Pinnace 199 at the Show on Friday 11 September, berth
521.
