Alan Priddy

Alan Priddy was born on a council estate in Portsmouth in 1953 and freely admits that he "dragged himself up". His 'powerboat' ambitions started off small when he was 11 years old and messing about in a motorised dinghy. From that point on he was hooked and the boats, like the challenges, just kept getting bigger!

OYSTER FESTIVAL SUPPORTED BY THE SHELLFISH ASSOCIATION OF GREAT BRITAIN

At which attraction? Sea Kitchen Theatre daily (twice daily at weekends)

Oyster fisheries from around Great Britain are showcasing their produce to create this unique new event. Oysterages from all around the UK will be represented including, amongst others, Colchester, West Mersea and Maldon from Essex, The Fal in Cornwall, Poole in Dorset, Loch Ryan from Scotland and Anglesey in Wales.

Sea Kitchen Theatre with Michelin Star Chef Shaun Rankin

At which attraction?  Sea Kitchen Theatre daily

TV Celebrity Chef Shaun Rankin will present the “Sea Kitchen Theatre” – an interactive cooking demonstration showing you how to create culinary delights on board and how to best enjoy the fruits of the sea. Plus a few lucky visitors will get the chance to sit at the “Chef’s Table” and sample the food with Shaun.

Heavy Weather Sailing with Doug Innes

At which attraction?  Boat Clinic  Sun 18th - 15:25, Thurs 22nd - 13:25, Sat 24th - 11:00, Sun 25th - 12:35

Offshore racing and cruising veterans and RYA Instructors Doug Innes and Adam Smith of Stormforce Coaching deliver a short talk on Heavy Weather Tactics. They will discuss some of the options available to a sailing yacht caught offshore in particularly heavy weather. The talk focuses on survival conditions and looks at some of the equipment you might use and strategies you might employ. Examples are drawn from the Fastnet and Sydney Hobert Disasters as well as more recent events. Doug or Adam will be speaking on different days but covering the same subjects.

Sam Steele author of UK and Ireland Circumnavigator’s Guide will be looking at planning aspects of a Round Britain Cruise such as: when to leave, which route, which direction, what to take, how long does it take and many other key questions. The talk will answer these questions and many more and will be coupled with an entertaining account of her trip round Britain in 2006 with her mate Margaret (Mags) Campbell in their Rival 38, Ituna. Maritime and Coastguard Agency

Boat Clinic  on Sat 24th - 14:15, Sun 25th - 16:25

During these clinics Coastguards from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency will help you understand your equipment and deal with any queries you have. The clinics will cover:

• Automatic Identification System (AIS) – its use and advantages for the small boat user
• Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) – what you need know and how to register it
• Navtex – what it is (including Maritime Safety Information)
• VHF DSC (Digital Selective Calling) what it is, its benefits and a brief overview of how and when to use it
• The Coastguard small boat registration scheme (CG66)
