At just 18 years old, Geoff Holt had sailed across the Atlantic
Ocean three times, completed several solo voyages and sailed over
27 thousand nautical miles. And then his life changed. All hopes,
dreams and expectations of earning his livelihood as a professional
yachtsman were brutally destroyed after diving into the sea and
breaking his neck.
In 2010 he was awarded the MBE for “Services to disabled
sailing” and he is the reigning YJA Yachtsman of the Year. He is a
member of the current Paralympic Steering Committee who will
shortly be selecting athletes for the 2012 Paralympic sailing
competition. Geoff’s personal philosophy is ‘no excuses’ and this
lies at the heart of his story: motivating others to live life to
the full and conquer challenges no matter what they may be.
Come and see Geoff read from his moving autobiography Walking on
Water: A Voyage Around Britain and Through Life
