Discover, Explore and Celebrate the 40th PSP Southampton Boat
Show
The PSP Southampton Boat Show, in association with ITV Meridian,
returns in style from 12-21 September 2008 and this year will be
celebrating its 40th Show. It promises to be a great day out
for everyone – young and old, sailors and novices, families and day
trippers – at one of the UK’s largest Shows.
As well as exploring the spectacular feature boats on display,
checking out the latest in marine fashion and technology or perhaps
discovering a new hobby, there will be plenty of opportunities for
visitors to experience the thrill of being out on the water first
hand.
The H2O Zone
Brand new to the Show this year is The H2O Zone, in association
with Calshot Activities Centre. People of all ages can
experience popular on-water sports at this family-friendly
interactive area, all for free. Visitors can test their
skills at canoeing, kayaking, dinghy sailing, windsurfing and stand
up paddle boarding - the latest water sport craze - with the
guidance of industry professionals from the British Canoe Union and
the Royal Yachting Association. The Zone runs the activities from
10.30am onwards every day.
Try-a-Boat
For further action on the water, don’t miss the popular Try-a-Boat
feature. Enhanced for the 40th Show, whether boating
beginners or sailing veterans visitors will be able to choose from
a varied selection of the latest inflatables, powerboats and yachts
to try - all for free!
The Hydropool Marina
A trip to the Show wouldn’t be the same without exploring the
spectacular Hydropool Marina; an impressive 1.6km in length and
boasting the capacity for nearly 400 boats. NBS will once
again be promoting a hands-on Show through its Come On Board
campaign, specifically designed to encourage interaction between
visitors and the Show’s exhibitors who are willing and eager to
offer their expert advice. All those taking part in the scheme will
clearly display the ‘Come on Board’ logo.
The Hydropool Marina plays host to the impressive feature boat
line up for 2008, which includes: Pete Goss’ Spirit of Mystery,
tall ship Jeanie Johnston, Katie Miller’s Hot Socks, 40-year
old Ocean Pirate, Clipper Ventures’ Hull & Humber, a 38ft
Westerly Oceanranger, Alan Priddy’s Lively Lady, research vessel
Callista and sailing charity The Rona Trust’s London Sailing
Project.
Visitors won’t want to miss the Maritime & Coastguard Agency
(MCA) teaming up with the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat
Institution) to provide Search & Rescue demonstrations
throughout the course of the Show. The demonstrations give an
overview of how these heroes of the sea and sky go about saving
lives – for best views head down to the Hydropool Marina.
The Main Stage - Powered by Fairline
Throughout the Show there will be a constant stream of action on
the Main Stage – Powered by Fairline. The Stage is central to
the Show’s spectacular celebrations, bringing its glorious 40 years
to life. Visitors will enjoy retro-style fashion shows three times
a day (excluding Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), guest appearances
from personalities, as well as short films celebrating the history
of the Show and highlighting the last five decades of boating – not
forgetting of course the announcement of the coveted Miss PSP
Southampton Boat Show competition on the final Saturday!
Refreshments
After all that activity, those looking for a well deserved rest can
check out the ever popular Guinness Village next door to The H20
Zone, or the Sunseeker Champagne Bar, which overlooks the Hydropool
Marina.
If it’s something more substantial you’re in need of, head over
to the Show’s new Restaurant SO40, in association with Cunard Line.
In celebration of the 40th Show, Cunard’s Executive Chef Jean-Marie
Zimmermann has designed a bespoke menu sure to tantalise the taste
buds of every visitor, as they savour their food overlooking the
impressive Hydropool Marina. To book a table in advance, call
07770 667 803.
Ladies Day
The first ever Ladies Day in the Show’s history, on Thursday 18
September, will have an official charity in Touching Tiny Lives –
Action Medical Research’s fundraising appeal which aims to help the
most vulnerable babies in this country.
For women who are really looking to indulge themselves, the
‘Ladies Day Experience’ at £85 is just the ticket. These
‘Elite Ladies’ gain access to the Ladies Day Lounge where they will
be treated to delicious chocolates from Elizabeth Shaw, be able to
