The Blue Water Runner is a unique new downwind sail that performs the role of three sails in one. Designed as effectively two Yankee sails on a single luff cable, when running dead-downwind it can be peeled apart. The two sails fly in ‘goose-winging’ mode, doubling the sail area to increase your boat speed. Alternatively it can be unfurled as one two-ply sail. Now it works as a light up-wind genoa like a Code 0, or as a reaching ‘Yankee’ when sailing further off wind. It can be trimmed and poled out like a spinnaker, or used safetly without a pole, especially in ligher breezes.
The BWR has been designed for long distance offshore cruising and rallies. It can be easily reefed by being semi-furled. There is no need to leave the cockpit to furl it or unfurl it. And when flown without the mainsail, you have great speed, stability and there's no risk of an involuntary gybe. So all the benefits of a great downwind ride with an entirely manageable set up. What's not to like?
