Staying warm on the water, whether you’re racing or cruising, is something we all know the importance of. Designed and engineered in Japan, where sailing remains a hugely popular leisure pursuit, the Zerofit Heatrub Ultimate (£55) baselayer has been tested at the iconic Boken Institute in Osaka, resulting in a warmth retention rating of 0.78: a standard baselayer would have a rating of 0.1-0.14, while a sweater would have a rating of 0.3. It performs at its best in a temperature range of -10° Celsius thru 10° Celsius – so even in the coldest of conditions, the Ultimate has got your back.

This is the opinion of John Minnis, skipper of the all-conquering Beneteau 31.7 ‘Final Call’ team from Ulster, which has been instrumental in testing the products suitability for the toughest sailing conditions. INSTANT HEAT THE MOMENT YOU PUT IT ON
A standard baselayer traps body heat between your skin and the material, so it takes a little time before you feel the benefits. With Zerofit, five separate fabrics, along with a patented knitting process, create instant warmth as soon as you pull it on. The Ultimate is also the baselayer for sailors who hate traditional baselayers! We don’t engineer our products with compression for heat as a technology, unlike other brands. The unique fabric mix means you don’t need the tightness in order to activate the baselayer, making it a much more comfortable proposition.

HEAT MAINTENANCE AND TEMPERATURE REGULATION
Innovative ‘Heat Threads’ positioned on the inside of the garment gently rub against your skin as you move, which creates positive warmth across your body, and also means this instant heat is retained. For sailors who want to ensure instant warmth on their legs too, we produce Heatrub Ultimate Leggings (£55) that are made from the same material, and work in exactly the same way as the top.

ADAPTABLE WARMTH ON THE WATER
The Ultimate baselayer is perfect for the coldest of sailing conditions, but it is complemented by the Heatrub Move (£40), which is twice as warm as a standard baselayer and therefor ideal for slightly milder conditions on the water. It features a 45% polypropylene construction on the inside of the baselayer and a hollow polyester shell that combine to regulate body temperature so as you work harder for longer, you won’t overheat. The construction removes sweat from the skin and the innovative design ensures it evaporates off the surface of the baselayer quickly, so that horrible feeling of ‘cold sweat’ never materialises. The Heatrub Move performs best in temperatures between -5° Celsius thru 12° Celsius and is available in black, white or titanium.
