Portsmouth Historic

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Portsmouth Historic Quarter is a charitable organisation dedicated to preserving, regenerating, and activating Portsmouth’s rich maritime heritage. As custodians of historic buildings, naval vessels, and public spaces across Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Priddy’s Hard, the Trust connects communities with the city’s naval past through conservation, cultural programming, and creative reuse.

Portsmouth Historic Quarter cares for a remarkable collection of vessels that embody Britain’s naval story – from daring rescue missions in the Second World War to the Falklands campaign, two of which will be available to view and for trips at Southampton International Boat Show 2025.

High Speed Launch 102 is the last surviving British power boat of her kind. Built in 1936, she served with distinction during the Second World War, rescuing downed aircrew. Today, she stands as a symbol of courage and innovation in coastal operations and is available for boats trips so you can experience her power for yourself.

Landing Craft F8 represents a later chapter in naval history. Built in the 1980s, she saw service during the Falklands conflict and reflects the vital but often overlooked role of landing craft in modern warfare. Now preserved in Portsmouth, she offers a powerful connection to those who served in more recent campaigns.

Notably for 2025, the UK marks 25 years since lifting the ban on LGBTQ+ people serving openly in the Armed Forces. To commemorate this milestone, Portsmouth Historic Quarter, in partnership with Fighting With Pride, has wrapped its Falklands-era Landing Craft F8 in a Pride design. Drawing on the original Pride flag and military symbolism, the artwork honours those once excluded from recognition.
