After a playful campaign inviting couples to apply for the chance to be “married” by Captain Jason Chambers (Below Deck Down Under), one lucky pair was chosen to take part in a truly unforgettable moment at the Southampton International Boat Show which is now open and runs until 28th September.
Flying in from the US to join the show, Captain Jason — one of TV’s most recognisable yacht captains, with years of experience at the helm — helped the couple mark the occasion with a memorable vow renewal on the water.
The winning couple, Hugo and Vicky Bostock, stepped on board an Absolute 53, courtesy of Approved Boats, for the surprise ceremony just days after celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary. Hugo secretly applied to give his wife the ultimate anniversary celebration — and to finally grant their daughters’ wish of attending a wedding.
“Our girls, aged 8 and 11, are adamant they’d make excellent bridesmaids,” explained Hugo. “They’ve been disappointed never to attend a wedding, so even if it wasn’t official, it was the perfect opportunity. With Vik being a huge Below Deck fan, a ceremony on the water was the ultimate surprise – brownie points for me hopefully!”
The intimate ceremony was officiated by Captain Jason in a playful nod to the old maritime tradition where captains would marry couples at sea. Though no legal papers were signed, the celebration marked a heartfelt and memorable moment for the couple, their daughters, and Vicky’s Maid of Honour.
Captain Jason returns to the show on 27th September, giving fans another chance to meet the star of the highly successful reality tv show in person. The Southampton International Boat Show is open every day until 28 September, tickets online start at £29 (concessions from £23), and children aged 15 and under enter free with a paying adult.
