Global Distribution Solutions Limited (GDS), UK distributor and global sales channel consultants for leading brands in the leisure marine endurance and survivability sectors, has been appointed as an official supplier for the Ocean Globe Race (OGR) 2023.
Amongst its brands, GDS represents Spectra and Katadyn marine products in the UK and supports international sales channels throughout EMEA. The Survivor 06 hand-operated desalinator that each entrant is required to carry on board by the race authority is the smallest emergency desalinator available. The Survivor 06 weighs just over one kilo and meets the SOLAS Chapter III requirements for life-saving appliances.
In addition, the NEW Spectra Cape Horn Extreme 330 R – remote manual desalinator, capable of making 56 litres of fresh water every hour, is being recommended to the race entrants based in part on its reliability and durability. Developed for the Volvo Ocean Race, it is now on sale to the general market.
GDS will also be offering a range of high quality, nutritional products from the Katadyn range for use in heavy weather and other hostile conditions. Its Trek ‘n’ Eat products are especially well-known for their variety and flavour as well as being lightweight. The Forestia range offers hydrated, long life and high calorie food which, when placed into its self-heating bag and a liquid is added, self-heats within minutes to provide piping hot, delicious meals.
“Water is a big issue in the OGR as with 10 or more in the crew, out for up to six weeks at a time!” said Don McIntyre OGR founder and Race Director. “It is hard to carry enough and the Spectra desalinators are well proven, reliable and energy efficient. I am certainly happy to have one onboard EXPLORER .”
The OGR, a fully-crewed, round-the-world race that celebrates traditional seamanship free of modern digital technology and esoteric materials, gets underway from Southampton in September.
