Momentum M10 electric outboard motor makes its Southampton International Boat Show debut

The Momentum M10 electric outboard will be making its first appearance at the Southampton International Boat Show on the Electric Outboard stand (LO36) this year.

Designed and manufactured in Singapore, the M10 is the lightest 10kW 15hp electric outboard package available in any market, anywhere.

“The M10 is a real game-changer for any boater looking for an electric equivalent to their old petrol outboard,” says Algie Bennett, founder and owner of Electric Outboard. “Its instant torque feels more like 25hp off the line, getting smaller boats on the plane almost immediately. We’ve tested it on a Highfield 310, Bantam 330S, Rigiflex 360 and eGuardian 420 with two people plus equipment and we’ve consistently hit 15-16 knots.”

Weighing in at just 22kg, plus its 6kg transom mount and its 37kg MB6 battery, the M10 tiller package is entirely hand portable and lighter than any other 10kW (or equivalent) motor system on the market.

Ready to go straight out of the box, the M10 can be simply put straight on to a RIB or tender or sailing boat – no tools required. The robust and cleverly designed transom bracket clamps on to the boat, the motor slides on to the bracket and is locked in place with a secure sliding clip – and that’s it.

As there is only one cable for both power and data, a boat owner simply plugs the cable into the motor and then the battery, turns on the battery, plugs in the safety kill cord, twists the throttle and they’re away.

And recognising that on small boats, every square inch is valuable, the MB6 battery is compact enough to be stowed away in a standard fuel locker while delivering the highest power density in its class.

Other clever design features include:

• safety button at the end of the tiller ensuring the user cannot accidentally go into reverse or straight to full power in forward
• tiller control only allowing the first 25% of power to be used before having to engage the safety button helping to prevent pointless waste of power unless really required
