More than 100 professionals from across the leisure marine sector gathered for a sold-out Trade Tuesday at the Southampton International Boat Show 2025 (Tuesday23 September), proudly sponsored by DF Capital.
Back by popular demand, the half-day industry focused event, held in the British Marine Trade Lounge, featured a packed programme of expert-led talks, thought-provoking panel discussions, and dedicated networking opportunities; delivering valuable insights and meaningful connections for the marine industry.
The morning began with a warm welcome from Lyndsay McClay, Founder of Seadrake Communications, Chair of British Marine South & Isle of Wight Association, and British Marine President Elect, who set the tone for the day by highlighting the value of Trade Tuesday in uniting the industry.
It was then over to Ryan Manning, Relationship Development Manager (Marine) at DF Capital, who, in his sponsor address, spoke about the importance of collaboration and supporting businesses of all sizes as the sector continues to innovate and evolve.
“We’re proud to once again support Trade Tuesday, an event that brings together such a wide cross-section of the marine industry. It’s fantastic to see so many businesses and professionals in one place, sharing ideas and building connections that strengthen our sector. What makes Trade Tuesday so valuable is the diversity of perspectives—it creates a space where every voice can be heard, from established names to emerging talent. Events like this showcase how the industry is moving forward, embracing innovation, sustainability, and future skills.”
The focus then shifted to British Marine’s own initiatives, as Adrien Burnand, Marketing Director & Special Projects at British Marine, introduced two exciting new developments: the Introduction to the Marine World course, designed to help new employees and those new to industry get to grips with the sector, and a new British Marine membership, which would be ideal for professionals from across the leisure marine industry.
Delegates then heard from Evie Matthews, Senior Policy Advisor at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), who delivered a timely briefing on the Employment Rights Bill and what it means for marine businesses. This session provided vital clarity on key legislative changes, helping attendees to prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
“Events like Trade Tuesday are essential. They give businesses the clarity they need on complex legislation, while also offering a platform to discuss solutions and share experiences with peers. It’s a brilliant example of the industry working together”, commented Evie.
Attention then turned to global trade as Grace Thompson, UK Public Affairs Lead at the Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade, led a session on Tariff Talk: Navigating US Export Costs for UK Small Businesses. This session offered practical guidance on how marine SMEs can manage international costs while remaining competitive.
The programme then moved into a lively panel discussion on Media Success in the Marine Sector, moderated by Lyndsay McClay. The panel featured insights from Chris Jones, Founder of The Knot Agency & The Yacht Marketing Club, Mark Jardine, Managing Director at worldmarine.media (YachtsandYachting.com / Sailingworld.com), and Marie Parton, Meta Ads Expert at Marie Parton Marketing. Together, they shared real-world advice on how businesses can make the most of traditional, digital, and social media to grow their reach and reputation.
The morning concluded with a thought-provoking Innovation Spotlight session from Jamaine Campbell, CEO of Elite Dynamics, who explored AI: the Art of What Is Possible. This forward-looking session examined how artificial intelligence is already reshaping business operations and what opportunities lie ahead for the marine industry.
Lesley Robinson, CEO of British Marine, said: “Trade Tuesday continues to go from strength to strength, and the sold-out attendance this year shows just how important it is to our industry. By bringing together diverse voices and expertise, we’re not only sharing knowledge but also sparking the connections and collaborations that will help to drive the marine sector forward.”
Alastair Clayton, Managing Director at Seaglaze Windows commented: “Trade Tuesday is invaluable. The mix of practical insights and networking means you leave with both new knowledge and new contacts. It’s exactly what we need as small businesses looking to navigate change and growth.”
Jess Armstrong, Manager at Elephant Boatyard Ltd agreed, saying: “This is my first time at Trade Tuesday and I was really impressed. The sessions were relevant and forward-thinking, and the chance to meet so many industry colleagues in one place was fantastic. I’ll definitely be back next year.”
