Cool air on the hottest day and warmth when the season turns — one Frigomar unit does both, holding the cabin exactly where you set it.
Frigomar are a market leader in marine air conditioning and refrigeration, with more than 40 years of innovation behind them and a customer list that includes many of the world’s most prestigious yacht builders.
In 2013 Frigomar were the first to bring variable-capacity technology to the marine market, and their self-contained unit went on to win British Marine’s Product of the Year in 2019.
A Frigomar compressor runs at whatever speed the cabin needs, ramping smoothly from 20% up to 100% and easing back as the space reaches temperature. So the air stays steady and comfortable, not swinging hot and cold.
That smooth control uses around 50% less electrical energy than an old stop/start unit, and start-up draws just 2 A rather than the 20–30 A a conventional unit pulls.
The result is even comfort that runs happily off a generator, an inverter or the batteries — without a heavy surge or a tripped breaker.
The SCU range covers 7,000 to 24,000 BTU/h, enough to cool anything from a single cabin to a large saloon, and every unit heats as well as cools.
However your boat is wired, the SCU range has a match: 230V or 115V AC from shore or generator, or 24V and 48V DC straight off the batteries, with 12V on the smaller units for battery-led boats.
Each unit is compact and light, with a touchscreen control, a detachable electrical box and an air outlet that rotates 135° to make ducting easier.
The largest, the SCU24, puts out 24,000 BTU yet sips just 400W in ECO mode.
For bigger boats, a Frigomar chilled water system cools and heats the whole boat from one central plant.
The CU range of chillers scales from 50,000 to 180,000 BTU/h. Each chiller cools water and pumps it around the boat, and air handlers and fancoils in every cabin deliver that cool or warm air — so a chiller and its air handlers work as one system.
The Frigomar AH air handlers come in five sizes from 5,000 to 28,000 BTU/h and tuck into cabins and lockers where space is tight, with an optional UV steriliser to keep the air clean.
The same variable-speed efficiency carries over, so even at this size start-up is around 2 A rather than the 70–80 A a conventional chiller can pull.
Every chiller can be specified with a titanium heat exchanger — lighter, and the most corrosion-resistant choice for hot or aggressive waters.
The chillers are modular and run in parallel for a fully tailored system, with a touchscreen that can sit up to 50 metres from the plant. Frigomar also make the thermostats and switchboards to control the whole system from one place.
