Seafarer Training Lefkas Introduces Catamaran Skipper Course
Catamarans have certainly been increasing in popularity and are increasingly evident in large numbers in marinas and yacht harbours wherever you go. And for good reason too, since as a holiday proposition, they offer the advantages of much more space, saloon, galley and deck all on one level, ideal for enjoying being at anchor in an idyllic bay. For non-sailors, they are a softer introduction to sailing, with no healing over to speak of which can be alarming to the uninitiated, whilst the more spacious accommodation also helps. Theres also lots of room for things like generator, air conditioning, water maker and the like which can increase autonomy as well as comfort.
If you have not chartered or sailed a catamaran before, it can appear a really daunting prospect for even very experienced skippers who have previously only sailed monohulls. The thought of damaging a million pound catamaran when trying to moor up in a tight and crowded harbour on a windy day, can instil terror in even the most seasoned skipper. It’s probably more the embarrassment and damaged pride and confidence, than physical damage to the vessel, since the former cannot be insured against.
Seafarer’s catamaran course is aimed at those looking to either purchase or charter a catamaran and the course combines the Day Skipper or ICC syllabus. It means you can also get qualified, whilst learning all the techniques to competently handle a catamaran in a variety of condition This includes manoeuvring and parking in tight spaces, anchoring, as well as general handling under sail and power.
Their training vessel is a comprehensively equipped Lagoon 400, so we also have the opportunity to cover managing all the on board systems like generator, A/C and so on.
Seafarer now offers catamarans not only for bareboat charter, but also on flotilla in selected destinations, including The Dodecanese, Sporades and Ionian in Greece, plus their flotilla bases in Croatia and Thailand.
Their first catamaran course will be running in Greece between October 26th and 1st November with the next in April 2026. Cost is £995 pp or £1415 in a single cabin. Flights and transfers can be added from £199
