The Boating Academy offers a full schedule of expert-led talks and live demonstrations aimed at boosting your confidence and enhancing your skills on the water. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned boater, you’ll learn practical tips and techniques from record breakers, boating professionals, and sailing legends. Each brings their own unique story and wealth of experience, giving you insight and inspiration to make every moment on the water count.

Speaker Line-up

Mark Ashley-Miller

Mark has sailed over 9,000 miles to visit every harbour master in the British Isles, raising over £30,000 for charity along the way. He’ll be bringing his boat, The Good Dog, to the show, so you can climb aboard and hear the story of his unique journey. Appearing Friday 19th, Sunday 21st and Saturday 27th September.

Hannah Brewis

Dreaming of a career in offshore sailing? Learn about how to get started, the pathways available including fast-track options, and how to make it happen with Hannah. Appearing Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th September.

James Conroy

In 2022, James made the bold decision to swap life ashore for life afloat aboard Takaza, his Etap 28i sailing yacht. James now works as a Berthing Master at Royal Quays Marina, operating the lock gates and sharing his passion to help fellow boaters. Appearing Monday 22nd September.

Hannah Diamond

Chair of the Female Futures Group, former British Sailing Team & Sail GP athlete, world championship medallist, and ‘Runner Up-Inaugural Women’s America’s Cup’. Appearing Wednesday 24th September.

Mike Ellicock

Mike is a former Paratrooper and to celebrate his 50th birthday he decided to row around Great Britain as fast as possible to raise funds for SUPPORT OUR PARAS, the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces charity. Appearing Saturday 20th and Saturday 27th September.

Judy Evans

A career spanning dinghy racing to family cruising on a Nicholson 35. Judy joined the Cruising Association in 1994, and is a member of the CA’s Regulatory & Technical Services (RATS) Group, as well as an editor of Captains Mate. Appearing Wednesday 24th September.

David Henshall

David "Dougal" Henshall, renowned British sailing historian and author, takes you on a captivating journey through the rich and fascinating history of the RYA. Dougal’s engaging storytelling brings sailing’s most iconic moments to life. Appearing Friday 26th September.

Charly Hewett

Highly experienced RYA instructor with an extraordinary career spanning warships, tall ships, marine conservation, and Antarctic expedition vessels. Now co-founder of Ardent Training, Charly is passionate about helping others develop the skills and confidence to thrive on the water. Appearing Sunday 21st September.

Edd Hewett

Highly experienced RYA instructor, co-founder of Ardent Training, and active RNLI lifeboat crew member. Known for his skill in extreme environments, Edd specialises in making complex navigation and safety concepts clear, practical, and confidence-building for sailors at every level. Appearing Sunday 21st September.

Conrad Humphreys

Triple round the world yachtsman, who became the 5th British sailor in history to complete the legendary Vendee Globe. In his most recent adventure, Conrad had to survive and safely navigate across 4000 miles of open ocean to recreate one of the greatest survival stories in British history. Appearing Sunday 21st and Sunday 28th September.

Julia Jones

Writer, editor and classic yacht owner, whose father served in the RNVSR. She is Literary Editor for Yachting Monthly magazine and the current owner of Arthur Ransome’s yacht, Peter Duck who she has known since childhood. Appearing Saturday 20th September

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston

Sailing legend and co-founder of Clipper Ventures, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first to solo circumnavigate the globe, joins the Southampton International Boat Show to share his iconic story of adventure, resilience, and survival at sea. Appearing Saturday 20th September.

Max Liberson

Renovating a £1 boat - Max Liberson shares how he refitted a £1 boat before sailing it to the Caribbean Appearing Friday 26th September.

Colin McLean

His earliest sailing memories began in Singapore, where his father built a small clinker-built dinghy that sparked Colin’s lifelong passion for the water. Whether it’s learning the basics, gaining confidence, or understanding the essentials of seamanship, Colin brings decades of practical knowledge and inspiring stories to every session. Appearing Monday 22nd September.

Justine Mettraux

Swiss sailor Justine Mettraux began sailing at a young age on her family’s boat. In 2024, she finished 8th in the Vendée Globe and set a new record for the fastest woman to sail solo around the world. The adventure continues in 2025 with Team Malizia in The Ocean Race! Appearing Wednesday 24th September.

Hannah Mills OBE

One of the most successful female Olympic Sailor in history. Mills is a two-time Olympic Champion and a three-time World Champion. Hannah launched the Athena Pathway Program alongside Sir Ben Ainslie in August 2022, with the aim of fast-tracking development in high-performance sailing. Appearing Wednesday 24th September.

Justin Morton

Former RYA Examiner / Instructor and writes regularly for Yachting Monthly. Justin will be sharing is knowledge of pilotage, why planning is fundamental to maximising our sailing experience and what skills we should develop and maintain. Appearing Thursday 25th September.

Gilbert Park

Gilbert Park, a respected writer for Practical Boat Owner, is someone who truly appreciates what boating is all about… slowing down, enjoying the sights, and savouring the simple joy of being on the water. Appearing Monday 22nd September.

Max Rivers

Royal Air Force Sailing Team

Meet the Royal Air Force Sailing Team – Fastnet Racers! From braving the challenging 695-mile course to navigating the tactics, teamwork, and thrills of one of the world’s most iconic races, the team has plenty of stories to tell. Appearing Tuesday 23rd September.

Ben Sutcliffe-Davies

Celebrating 45 years in the marine industry having built his first boat in 1979, Ben is a time-served boat builder, renowned Marine Surveyor and long-time technical contributor. He also has an extremely popular You tube channel “The Marine Surveyor Notebook”. Appearing Saturday 27th September.

Paul Tetlow

Managing Director of sailing rally organisers World Cruising Club, Paul is also involved in World Cruising Club’s varied international seminar programme, helping sailors turn their offshore dreams into reality. He has cruised in the Caribbean, Australia, the Pacific as well as European waters. Appearing Tuesday 23rd September.

Nicky Vaux

As co-owner of Empire Marinas Group in Australia and host of the acclaimed Boat Princess Podcast, Nicky brings unique insights from both sides of the dock — blending real-world experience with an authentic storytelling style that resonates with seasoned professionals and newcomers alike. Appearing Wednesday 24th September.

Duncan Wells

Author of the Stress-Free series of sailing books, creator of MOB Lifesavers and principal of Westview Sailing. Duncan has created ground-breaking stress-free techniques related to casting off and coming alongside. Appearing Tuesday 23rd, Thursday 25th and Sunday 28th September.
